Who Shot J.R.?

This was a huge deal. One time at work we had an 80's retro day and some kid showed up wearing a t-shirt that said "I Shot J.R.", I laughed and he told me he didn't know what it meant. Of course everyone knows that the next season Bobby woke up and it was all a dream because the writers didn't know how to write a real ending.
