Good Times
Good Times, one of the many Norman Lear productions. Very good stuff. That opening song is classic.
Awesome clip...listen for the "took Isreal to lunch" line...OUCH!
The Jeffersons
This is funny. I wanted to post the intro, but this clip is funnier. The "n" word, too. It was the 70's

From Zoom
Nice shirt...I used to dress like that. We watched this show and kids would pretend they understood, and I was like...I don't get it.
M Jackson's Hair On Fire
This actually happened. This is a dramatic re-creation of it, but it was this huge news story, another 80's icon, and part of the cola-wars, too.
The Flinstones Selling Cigarettes
This is why good episodes of the Simpsons were written the way they were. My son is a Simpsons nut, so this is just for him...the story behind some "Laramie" ad campaigns.
Where's The Beef and other annoying commercial phrases that irritated me:
This was so annoying. I couldn't believe the fervor this unleashed with bumpersitckers, hats, t-shirts, and people saying it all the time and cracking up like it was the first time they heard it. I don't even think I laughed the first time. The 80's was like that...made me feel pretty alone. Ugh, that stupid Spuds Mackenzie dog for Budweiser...so dumb. Later on down the road...the Simpsons lampooned stuff like this and I let out a sigh of relief.
Rubicks
So there are some people out there that I call "Rubicks Cube Ronald Reagan Republicans" because they vote a certain way for no other reason than they are caught in a time warp, and they actually believed the RR hype. I was happy to see the cube featured on the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" that was a great movie. We were so amazed with this cube when it came out. Now the mysteries are unlocked.
Here's a guy that can do the cube blindfolded. We've come a long way baby.
I Dream Of Jeanie
This blog is not going to be all TV. I know I'm uploading a lot of this stuff that's readily available on cable in the U.S., this blog is actually directed at my soon to be 14 year old son, and we don't watch much tv and for the last two years have been in the Philippines.
Who Shot J.R.?
This was a huge deal. One time at work we had an 80's retro day and some kid showed up wearing a t-shirt that said "I Shot J.R.", I laughed and he told me he didn't know what it meant. Of course everyone knows that the next season Bobby woke up and it was all a dream because the writers didn't know how to write a real ending.
Tootie's and Natalie's Bongs
The Facts of Life first season intro is cool because Molly Ringwald is in it. The second clip is when Tootie and Natalie go buy bongs and the record store and think that they're jelly bean holders. I think my mom just cocked her head sideways and didn't comment much on this episode. Seeing this stuff on TV was all new to her.
The Match Game
I don't know what year this was. But when I was a kid, we had very few channels, and shows like this. Some were re-runs from the 60's and 50's some were new. So kids my age were schooled in a couple of decades of entertainment. This is from the 70's I'm pretty sure, and this particular clip is hilarious.
Jodie Foster 1974
Harry-O episode, Guardian at the Gates, featuring Jodie Foster as a child actor. Also shows Orwell's boat, The Answer. From 1974.
I was 3. Jodie always reminded me of me when I was a kid.

My Generation
I was born in 1971. Little did I know that technology would make my generation one of the last to have a huge gap with underlings. Our group remembers NO VCRS, NO MTV, let alone no MP3's. Sometimes I don't think that people even 10 years younger than me realize what a huge gap this is, and how different the world was when I was growing up.
Anyway...I'm collecting stuff. And here it is.
